Feeding Families in Gilmer County Since 2001. Your donations make it possible!
The Gilmer Community Food Pantry is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to helping feed the hungry in Gilmer County. The Food Pantry began in 2001, when the need was recognized by a few good people who were willing to give of their time and energy to help others. Now we have over 50 volunteers. Many dedicated volunteers work every week to pick up food from several locations, bag USDA food, margarine, eggs and other food and coordinate the next week's distribution day. Thanks to the generosity of churches, businesses and individuals, when the books were closed on 2017 we have served over 4168 families, consisting of over 9259 adults and over 14,000 children. The amount of food we have been able to give has also grown to an impressive level of 387,453 pounds in 2017.
We have also taken on the task of the SACK PACK program. A group of our dedicated volunteers pack food for 310 children each week and deliver the food to the schools to be distributed to them on Fridays, so the kids won’t go hungry over the weekend.
You see, we desperately need the continued generosity, help and support of all individuals, businesses and churches who can donate food or money to our cause. The need for the Pantry to continue to feed the hungry in our county is going to continue. There are many individuals and families with children that depend on the food they receive from the pantry to help them get through each month.
