Feeding Families in Gilmer County Since 2001. Your donations make it possible!
HELP US FEED THE HUNGRY
HELP US FEED THE HUNGRY
We will be open every Wednesday from 9 to 12:45 for food distribution. You will be given a # when you pull in to park and will be called up to interview 1 member of each family. Please remain in your car until we call your #. Please be patient as we are having to alter our method of distribution to help prevent the spread of the corona virus.
PLEASE NOTE: THE WAY WE ARE NOW DISTRIBUTING FOOD, CLIENTS DO NOT COME IN AND SIT IN THE WAITING ROOM AS BEFORE. ONLY 3-5 PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED IN THE PANTRY AT ONE TIME, STANDING 6' APART. WE HAVE SHORTENED OUR INTERVIEWS FOR THIS PERIOD TO GET CLIENTS IN AND OUT FASTER AND IT IS ONLY TAKING
10 MINUTES TO PICK UP FOOD. IF YOU NEED FOOD, BRING PROOF OF GILMER RESIDENCY AND PICTURE ID NEXT WEDNESDAY.
The Gilmer Community Food Pantry is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to helping feed the hungry in Gilmer County. The Food Pantry began in 2001, when the need was recognized by a few good people who were willing to give of their time and energy to help others. Now we have over 50 volunteers. Many dedicated volunteers work every week to pick up food from several locations, bag USDA food, margarine, eggs and other food and coordinate the next week's distribution day. Thanks to the generosity of churches, businesses and individuals, in 2020 we served 3570 families. They were 8137 adults and 18, 534 children and we gave out 420,645 lbs. of food.
We have also taken on the task of the SACK PACK program. A group of our dedicated volunteers pack food for 345 children each week and it is delivered to the schools to be distributed to them on Fridays, so the kids won’t go hungry over the weekend.
You see, we desperately need the continued generosity, help and support of all individuals, businesses and churches who can donate food or money to our cause. The need for the Pantry to continue to feed the hungry in our county is going to continue. There are many individuals and families with children that depend on the food they receive from the pantry to help them get through each month.
We also deliver food to Brooks Hill and Cox Creek Apartments each month. Susan Shedd has been the continuing force behind delivering it to the clients there for several years, with the help of Brycen, Rick and her husband Bruce (not shown). However, the volunteers who work hard to pack the 20-30 boxes each month deserve the biggest thanks because without them, it couldn't happen.
Your generous gift will help us fund our mission to help those in need. Together, we can make a difference!
PLEASE NOTE: We are raising money for the purchase of a generator to power our coolers and freezer in case of a power outage. If you wish to contribute to that fund please make your donation end in 33 cents.
