Feeding Families in Gilmer County Since 2001. Your donations make it possible!
HELP US FEED THE HUNGRY
HELP US FEED THE HUNGRY
We will be open every Wednesday from 9 to 12:45 for food distribution. You will be given a # when you pull in to park and will be called up to interview 1 member of each family. Please remain in your car until we call your #. Please be patient as we are having to alter our method of distribution to help prevent the spread of the corona virus.
PLEASE NOTE: THE WAY WE ARE NOW DISTRIBUTING FOOD, CLIENTS DO NOT COME IN AND SIT IN THE WAITING ROOM AS BEFORE. ONLY 3-5 PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED IN THE PANTRY AT ONE TIME, STANDING 6' APART. WE HAVE SHORTENED OUR INTERVIEWS FOR THIS PERIOD TO GET CLIENTS IN AND OUT FASTER AND IT IS ONLY TAKING
10 MINUTES TO PICK UP FOOD. IF YOU NEED FOOD, BRING PROOF OF GILMER RESIDENCY AND PICTURE ID NEXT WEDNESDAY.
The Gilmer Community Food Pantry is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to helping feed the hungry in Gilmer County. The Food Pantry began in 2001, when the need was recognized by a few good people who were willing to give of their time and energy to help others. Now we have over 50 volunteers. Many dedicated volunteers work every week to pick up food from several locations, bag USDA food, margarine, eggs and other food and coordinate the next week's distribution day. Thanks to the generosity of churches, businesses and individuals, in 2021 we served 2772 families. They were 7623 adults and 10,269 children and we gave out 480,800 lbs. of food.
We have also taken on the task of the SACK PACK program. A group of our dedicated volunteers pack food for 382 children each week and it is delivered to the schools to be distributed to them on Fridays, so the kids won’t go hungry over the weekend.
You see, we desperately need the continued generosity, help and support of all individuals, businesses and churches who can donate food or money to our cause. The need for the Pantry to continue to feed the hungry in our county is going to continue. There are many individuals and families with children that depend on the food they receive from the pantry to help them get through each month.
We also deliver food to Brooks Hill and Cox Creek Apartments each month. Susan Shedd has been the continuing force behind delivering to the clients there for several years, with the help of her husband Bruce (not shown). However, the volunteers who work hard to pack the boxes each month deserve the biggest thanks because without them, it couldn't happen.
Your generous gift will help us fund our mission to help those in need. Together, we can make a difference!
PLEASE NOTE: Thank you to all who gave toward the purchase of our generator. Because of your generosity, we now have a new generator. When we need something, you respond!! GOD BLESS YOU!
