Help Us Feed the Hungry
The Gilmer Community Food Pantry is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to helping feed the hungry in Gilmer County. The Food Pantry began in 2001, when the need was recognized by a few good people who were willing to give of their time and energy to help others. Now we have over 65 volunteers.
Many dedicated volunteers work every week to pick up food from several locations, bag USDA food, margarine, eggs and other food and coordinate the next week’s distribution day. Thanks to the generosity of churches, businesses and individuals, in 2023 we served 4,437 families. They were 9.684 adults and 19,021 children (including Sack Pack), and we gave out 581,486 lbs. of food.
We have also taken on the task of the SACK PACK program. A group of our dedicated volunteers pack food for 384 children each week, and it is delivered to the schools to be distributed to them on Fridays, so the kids won’t go hungry over the weekend.
You see, we desperately need the continued generosity, help and support of all individuals, businesses and churches who can donate food or money to our cause. The need for the Pantry to continue to feed the hungry in our county is going to continue. There are many individuals and families with children that depend on the food they receive from the pantry to help them get through each month.
